Budapest

Austria starts with an army in Budapest.
Usually its first move will be to the free entrance of Serbia (Balkan Gambit), but it could also bounce out the Russian fleet from Sev in Rum (of course agreed upon with Turkey), or if lucky, even enter Rumania.

If you also move Vie - Gal you have really screwed up a relationship with one of your neighbours already, and it often tends Italian players to attack you as well.

Dear Sir,

I have just come up with an intelligent statement for Austria as a whole.
To the person who wrote the thing in Budapest (was that you?) I don't see why moving Vie -Gal is so bad. First of all, the probability that Russia will move war - gal is VERY high. Like this you keep him away for 2 turns, if you are unlucky one. Anyway, Budapest should take Serbia and everything is cool.

You can even keep the turks out of greece. I think this tactic is the only chance for survival. If it's a press game, peace with italy is important. If things are fishy, hold Trieste, if not, move to alb. This tactic works best in a no-press game. italy will almost always want peace with Austria, since it thinks it will fall to R and T. so you can even go take Greece.

Anyway, by bouncing the russians in galicia, you ensure that the open Budapest will not be taken, and you can then expand from there. With Austria, survival is the most important.

I hope you don't think that was too stupid. =-) Do what you like with it. Naturally 'delete' is an option. have a nice day! =-)

Note: stupid additions don't exist :-)

A major note on Budapest is missing: Its strategic importance to the entire Balkans.
From this point, any assault directed against either Russia, Italy, Germany, or Turkey must have support of Budapest- it is in effect the Hub of Eastern affairs and those who wish to advance through the East must first control Budapest.

I will not justify this by example moves, rather, anyone can test it in a game by selecting an Eastern power and trying to advance without controlling Budapest.
