Turkey starts with an army in Constantinople. Together with the province of Denmark, Constantinople has an extraordinary feature: It can be traversed by both fleets and armies.
Armies may move from Turkey into the balkans and vice versa. Fleets may move from the Aegean Sea and go to the Black Sea on the next move.
This ability makes Turkey a hard nut to crack because the entrance to Turkey is so well defendable by armies as well as fleets. If Turkey places fleets in BLA and AEG and an army in CON, there is always some kind of three-way-alliance (AIR) needed before much improvement on Turkey is made. If you play the Sultan, you will know how to deal your way out of this..
"The Emperor again fell silent, measuring distances on the map with
his calipers and asserting that Constantinople was by its situation the
center and seat of universal power."
Emmanuel Las Cases, a friend of Napoleon on St Helena.
A generally good idea for Constantinople, is to make sure the army from Smyral does not tie it up from fleet production.
Expansion from Constantinople to Bulgaria is obvious, but a move from there into Rumania is not certain. If the army from Smyral follows behind and tries to move to bulgaria, it will be blocked as well, if either Austria OR Russia move in on Rumania. (which through experience I might add, is common).
Best is to send the army from Smyral to Armenia, THEN use Constantinople for fleet production. Thus allowing you to support the Ankara fleet, and take the Black Sea, NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
When you play Turkey, you must not lose sight of the advantage you have over Russia in the dispute for the Black Sea. Turkey has TWO SCs on Black Sea coasts (Constantinople and Ankara). This obvously means you can get a second fleet and control the Black sea no matter what, by or in the year 1902. If you somehow get the Black Sea right off the bat, you may not wish to build a fleet in Constantinople, but the army moved to Armenia is not out of the picture. A simple convoy can now bring it anywhere you need it!
CONCLUSION: Constantinople = Turkish control of the Black Sea, NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
Quick elimination of the Russian Southern fleet, means Austria one on one, with little Russian intervention. (England and Germany will probably keep Northern Russian forces busy, so they wont be comming south to help anytime soon)
Once you have the Russian fleet from Sevastapool gone, have
fun crushing Austria with a northern flank. You are now free to attack
Austria from North of the Black Sea, and south!
"AUFWIEDERSEHEN AUSTRIA!" (the second fleet would also come in handy
trying to control Greece, which is very important to Bulkan warfare)
